MicroCement System

Surface preparation,

The surface must be firm, in good condition, clean, sound and free of oil, grease, dust or any contaminant that may impair adhesion. The degree of humidity or water repellence must be checked. With surfaces that have humidity problems due to filtration, capillarity or condensation, you should resolve the origin of the problem before applying the Microcement system. The surface must be flat. It should be appropriately repaired if necessary On floors: It is essential to treat the floor to ensure the product adheres properly.

• Concrete, cement and resin floors in poor condition: Shot blast or sandblast the surface to remove any contaminants and optimise the surface for better adhesion. Repair any holes or cracks in the surface.

• Concrete, cement and resin floors in good condition: gently sand then vacuum the dust afterwards

On vertical surfaces:

• Remove dirt and vacuum dust. In the case of painted surfaces, it is not necessary to remove the paint if it is water-based, in good condition and well adhered, with the exception of satin paints or water or solvent-based enamels, for which you will need to open the pores by sanding. For surfaces with paint in bad condition, remove it completely and apply the product onto the fresh surface. On ceramic surfaces:

• On ceramic tiles in poor condition, completely remove and level the floor.

• On ceramic tiles in good condition, clean and remove all traces of grease and contaminants from the surface. Partitions and joints: • If there are any expansion joints, they should be respected.

• For large areas of application, plan the work ahead to avoid interruptions and visible joints

Primers application

On some surfaces it may be necessary to apply an adhesion promoter to ensure the Microcement system adheres properly to the existing surface.

Microcement Primer Abs is an acrylic primer. It is applied primarily on absorbent surfaces without high mechanical resistance requirements •Microcement Primer N-Abs + Hardener is a two-component epoxy primer. It is applied mainly on non-absorbent surfaces (e.g. ceramics) or on surfaces with high mechanical requirements (e.g. floors)

Vertical surfaces:

• For vertical surfaces, in good condition and with adequate porosity, it will not be necessary to apply any bonding primer. Microcement Base or Microcement Walls will adhere perfectly.

• For vertical surfaces where the surface is brittle or has traces of paint, and is suitably porous, you should use Microcement Primer Abs as an adhesion promoter

Wood:

• On wooden surfaces, once sanded and in good condition, we apply Microcement Primer Abs

Surfaces with humidity:

• On surfaces where there has been moisture seepage, we apply Microcement N-Abs + Hardener, which will act as a vapour barrier as well as an adhesion promoter. Ceramic:

• On ceramic surfaces, Microcement N-Abs + Hardener should also be used to ensure perfect adhesion.

Polished surfaces:

• Microcement N-Abs + Hardener should always be used on any polished surface or any surface that you suspect may have adhesion problems, such as floors. For any work where you want to ensure perfect adhesion, you should use this primer. In case of doubt, consult the technical data sheets of the chosen primer.

System MicroCement Base Application

Base Application

Microcement Base + Microcement Resin. The Microcement Base is a coating whose main function is to create an even surface that can be subsequently finished with Microcement Floors or Walls. It is a two-component coating, which must always be mixed with Microcement Resin. The product has a slight roughness, which also allows us to use it to provide a rustic finish, without the need to apply another Microcement.

Walls and Ceilings

With walls, in perfect condition and totally flat, Microcement Base does not need to be applied, Microcement Walls can be applied directly. For surfaces that are irregular, ceramic or in poor condition, apply Microcement Base and add fibreglass mesh to improve the mechanical resistance of the substrate. Floors Always apply Microcemento Base with fibreglass mesh

MicroCement Floor or Wall + Microcement Resin.

Microcement Floor or Wall + Microcement Resin. Microcement Floor or Wall are the decorative coatings of the Microcement system, with which the different aesthetic effects and those that provide colour are obtained. They are two-component coatings, which must always be mixed with Microcement Resin (coloured). Microcement Floors is applied on floors and surfaces with a greater need for mechanical resistance. It is applied over Microcement Base. Microcement Walls is ideal for walls and ceilings, furniture, sanitary…. It is applied on Microcement Base. Just in the case where the surface is absorbent and in perfect state we can apply directly on the primer.

Colours

All colours are available in the Tintometric System Montomix. Dosing is always done on Microcement Re sin, which will be mixed on site with Microcement Floors or walls. In the case of the rustic finish, on Microcement Resin for mix with the Microcement Base. It is not recommended to vary the amounts of colorant indicated in the formula. It is not recommended to make other colours that are not described in our Tintometric System Montomix. The selected varnish notably influences colour intensity

Varnish and protection

Varnish and protection

There are various products available for this purpose, depending on the intended use of the Microcement system.

Microcement Sealer It is an acrylic sealer. It is always applied onto cementitious Microcement Base, Walls and Floors; it regulates absorption, provides hardness and improves the finish of Microcement Protector.

•Microcement Protector Deco (Matte, Satin, Gloss) It is a single-component acrylic varnish. It is ideal for varnishing furniture and in general for walls and ceilings as a decorative finish. It is applied onto Microcement Sealer.

•Microcement Protector (Matte, Satin, Gloss) + Hardener. It is a two-component polyurethane varnish. It is ideal for varnishing floors as well as walls, ceilings or furniture, especially for the most demanding applications: renovations on ceramic tiles, shower interiors, bathroom equipment in regular contact with water, etc. (note: not suitable for use with constantly submerged areas.

Application

The ideal application temperature is between 5 and 30º C. Do not apply at temperatures above 35º C, nor onto overheated surfaces or those exposed to strong sunlight. Environmental temperature variations during the application process will also alter the setting and drying times of the material. The use of a plastic/rubber trowel is recommended for the application of Microcement Floors or Walls in very light colours, as steel trowels can create stains or black shadows that may detract from the aesthetic appearance of the finish. Maintenance It should be cleaned with water and neutral soaps. On floors, it should be waxed periodically (at least once a month). On high traffic surfaces, the floor can be polished and re-varnished. Furniture or objects should not be dragged over the Microcement system, nor should abrasives be used for cleaning.

Repair

Scratches or damage to the varnish can be repaired by sanding and reapplying the varnish to the entire surface. If the damage has reached the cement mortar, the varnish must be sanded/removed and the process reapplied, starting from the application of the cementitious mortar. Other considerations The varnish provides a completely sealed, waterproof and resistant finish. For this reason, it is not advisable to apply the Microcement System on floors that are usually walked on wet (humid areas, outdoor pedestrian terraces, etc.) without an additional anti-slip treatment. The use of products not tested and proposed in this system is discouraged, as we cannot guarantee their performance
